Default window crank spring question

I assume that the coiled spring for the window crank shaft goes between the upholstery panel and the metal panel that holds the crank assembly in place.

I also assume that the coil spring is positioned so that the larger part of the coil is against the upholstery and the smaller part is against the metal crank assembly.

These panels were not attached to the interior when I got it.

Yes you have it right. The big thing is that you use original springs. The repop's are about twice as thick so they don't collapse properly when you go to put the escutcheon plate and handle on. I make a point at the flea markets to buy original springs. Just so I have them on hand. JP

Tinbasher is right. I bought new handles, escutcheons and springs. I couldn’t make the springs fit, so I did without them. It doesn’t seem to be a problem.

Thanks for your reply--Yes I saw that deal about the new springs on another post. My crank handles used only the set screw no pins at all. I tested a few options as for as what I would put behind the upholstery panel and I ended up not putting anything in place of the spring. It looks fine!

Any one know when they changed the crank handles from pins to set screws (or vice versa). I had new handles that came with the car when I got it and they all had holes for pins AND a set screw.

Do you know the wire diameter of the original springs?
