Cable operated vacuum wiper on '47 PU
Is this an aftermarket wiper assembly? I see no mention of it in the green bible. I just pulled it off a parts truck in the woods. All the parts move freely and it appears well made and easy to install in stock holes. Also I want to test it out and have read that some folks use brake fluid to lubricate the innards. Is this a good choice? I am on a mission to 'rainproof' the woodie. I completed it in 2019 but never installed wipers because I had no intention of driving it in the rain. Well, with the new drivetrain it seems to be itchin' to hit the open road, so I busted out the varnish brush and wiper rehab seems like the order of the day in between varnish coats.

I think the brake fluid softens the rubber paddle in there, to make a better seal for the vacuum. Put the feed hose in a container and acutuate the wiper to draw it in……Mark

And make sure you don't spill it on any paint you are attached to.

OK, will do! Upon further cleaning I see it's an Anco Maxi-Vac, and it runs like the energizer bunny. I have not yet treated it with brake fluid, but I spose some PB Blaster has found it's way in. The 276 pulls 21 inches vacuum at low idle so I'm thinking the system will sweep the windshield just fine. Might even work goin' uphill, now that I no longer have to put my two-tones through the floorboards.

Hi Gary My 41 pickup has that same wiper motor, I think. I took it out two years ago and cleaned it up. It felt like it had a stiff spot that I couldn't get rid of so I tried it anyway since it was all I had. It's not made by tryco but man it works great. Tim

Re: Cable operated vacuum wiper on '47 PU
Thanks for the enlargement! I'll have to decide what to suck into this thing by the weekend when I install it. Tuesday afternoon I hit the road in the woodie for my fun filled four days at the Puget Sound Antique Tractor and Machinery Association's annual meet at Lynden Wa, up near the Canadian border. I'll be pulling the rear seat to make more room for my army cot and camping stuff along with all the other junk I'm bringing. This will be my 38th year at the event and I always sleep in whatever old jalopy I drive up in. I have been laying on a few coats of varnish just to make sure it's all sealed well in case of a shower. Rain is forecast for Monday, ending Tuesday morning, so I'm actually hoping I DON'T need this wiper. But you know me.... It's always safety first!
