Default 35 wires, tires and tubes

I am using 35 wire wheels on my pickup and have questions regarding tires and tubes. I am aiming for a pre war style hot rod and leaving the banger in place with as many original parts as financially feasible.
I was looking at Cokers Firestone bias ply knock offs in 5.50-16 and 7.50-16`s.
Has anyone else used them in this configuration? Thoughts and experiences ?
What did you use for tubes?
Thanks

I did the same thing on my AV8 only with 7.00 rears. I got the tubes from Coker. Except for messing around with pressure to tune ride, I haven't added any air over the last seven years.

I'm running blackwall Coker/Firestone setup on my wires 5:50X16 and 7:00X16 and very pleased with the setup - also balanced very well. I also have coker tubes and new rubber wire protectors on each inner center rim.

You might say "Coker Firestones" and leave off the "knockoffs" 'cause they have the original firestone service replacement molds. There have been QC issues with balancing Cokers, but they stand behind their product and will replace out of balance tires. For your wires, be sure to order the rubber tube protectors that cover the wires inside the rims, and also, use plenty of talc on the tubes.

That I did not know and my apologies to those I may have offended.
Thanks for the additional info.

The 35`s have welded spokes and no protrusions inside the wheel.

Larn sompin ever day! Although, any roughness at all can abrade the tubes, so it's easier to use the pads than to smooth out the rims.

Will take your advise on the liners.

I have run both the Coker radials and the firestones on 1935 16" wheels..No tubes and they have been fine.

After lots of reading and recommendations from several posters, ended up buying Coker Firestones. 5.50 x 16`s for the front and 7.00 x 16's for the rear.
I went thru 8 rims to get 4 decent ones and they are in getting trued/straightened. Depending on how they turn out after sand blasting, will determine if I powder coat or paint.

I run 6.00 on the front and a 7.50 on the rear of my 29 coupe. 35 wires as well. Looks perfect. I had 5.50's on the front and they were to small. My 46 pickup had 6.00 on the front and 6.50 on ther rear. Loved the look.

I had trouble with the Chinese made 16" inner tubes, from Coker. They were seperating at the seems.

For 35 wheels do I need offset or straight valve locations? Im trying to source some here in Japan but am struggling.

Offset. Try Motorcycle(like for Harley's) tubes(for 600X16 and smaller) and make sure the valve is offset because they do come straight. In France the tractor places have the larger size.I ran tubless on my '33 with 16" 35 Ford wires. Here is a pic.

I agree, if the rims are in good shape I would try tubless

Beauty wheels. With the typical worm & sector 17" tires, it's a challenge to parallel park as it is; what is the benefit of 16", other'n a softer ride on a bumpy trail or backroad?

Thank you.

Wow. View the new EFV8Club membership. Maybe you'll find one for you if the time is right.

The benefit of the 16" wheels is that they just look so damned good when compared with the 17"-ers! Coop
