I welcome any advise on how to exchange the starterdrive.

Exchange it for what? Or, do you mean simply replace it? Just remove a battery cable to kill the power, then remove the starter push rod and battery cable. Then remove the 3 bolts holding the starter in place and wiggle it around and out. It's a tight fit, but it will come out.

When you remove the Bendix bolt on the rear of the starter shaft, then you can remove the drive head and key, then slide the rest of the drive off. Reverse this to install the new drive, but make sure the tabs are good on the lock washers, or better yet, use new locking tab washers and make sure the tab is tight against the flat side of the hex bolt, so it doesn't come loose down the road. The helix should only have a light coat of very light oil. 3 in 1 oil or ATF should work.

Thanks Tom! You are right I ment replacing the Bendix. I understand that I don't need special tools for this job!? What is the tork of the bolts?

Don't worry about torque. What feels right when you hand tighten using common wrenches and common sense is what works OK. I usually use about a 6" box wrench on the 3 bolts holding the starter in place.

I removed the starter and saw that the starter spring screw Bendix Drive gear head end was broken and the washer missing. I replaced the entire starter drive. The starter is working perfect again. I think the broken screw and the washer are inside the flywheel housing. Could that be a problem? Is it wise to remove them from the flywheel housing? If so what will be the best way to do so? All suggestions are welcome!

It is easiest if you remove the top bolt from the starter last and replace that bolt first. This helps support the starter while you are working on the other two bolts. A lesson learned the hard way

I suggest you remove the top bolt last to keep from breaking the starter housing, and replace it first.
