I'm here at the auction and everything is going for crazy money so far. Scared to think what the A stuff will sell for.

Amazing. How does one person accumulate so much stuff and in such variety? Does anyone know his story?

Top seller so far? Flying Merkel, $175,000 This Harley went for $100,000 Want to know how he accumulated his collection? I found this under the back seat of one of the A's. The license plates went today and brought over $500,000 for all of them. The motorcycles by themselves, not counting Whizzers or Bicycles brought $1.2 million. Pretty impressive. -Tim |

Re: The Lee Roy Hartung Collection Auction = Chicago
The 1908 Thor Single went for $32,500 plus buyers premium. The 1913 Thor Twin with sidecar brought $47,000 plus 15% premium. These seem like bargains compared to some.
There was no sales tax for vehicles - just parts and collectibles. |

Re: The Lee Roy Hartung Collection Auction = Chicago
Wow, a few of those cars sold for more than you can buy a running car for...I'm glad I didn't go, those roadster pickups would have been very...very tempting.

Re: The Lee Roy Hartung Collection Auction = Chicago
The total price for the sale including the buyer's premium of 15% was just under 4 Million

Re: The Lee Roy Hartung Collection Auction = Chicago
I updated my Photobucket with almost 700 pictures of the auction over four days.
http://s236.photobucket.com/albums/f...ion/?start=all This sign went for $30,000. This went for $7,500 Funny story about the Playboy. The announcer mentioned that they found that magazine, buried in a stack of paper in the back of the AA bus/Paddy Wagon. I really wanted these, but not at $1,200. Thought this was cool, was on one of the Model A coupes. The auction was an experience. I got to see a lot of very cool things that I have never seen before, even after wandering Hershey four times. Saw and met a lot of great people, heard some great stories as well. I only bought a pair of 1915 IL license plates on Friday, I overpaid for them but eh, would have been disappointed if I didn't get something out of the auction. Overall, well worth the price of admission and a great collection that will now be spread all around the world for others to enjoy. -Tim Last edited by WTSHNN; 11-07-2011 at 01:14 PM. |

Re: The Lee Roy Hartung Collection Auction = Chicago
Ok my take on the auction is this very large lots made it hard to swallow when the price gets to 500 bucks or better for Model a Sector shafts. Well the lot is for 10 NOS in the Ford boxes and that makes them 50 bucks each. So what does the same copy but the Chinese in your catalog cost 70 bucks . Will it brake/snap, wear out in a week and even fit with out hour of mods. Most of the parts were original and NOS so quality cost were Chinese is cheaper but. A few pictures of the lots, I also took more and posted a few days ago. thanks lee for saving the cars and parts for us.
