Default Generator

Will the generator be damaged if I disconnect it from the battery while the engine is running?

Most likely if you are just running a cutout.

Yes it will because the voltage can jump to 40 volts and overheat the windings. If you ground out the generator output stud, then you can safely run it without being connected to the battery.
