Default Help with installing Speedi Sleeve on a axle

Ref 49 rear axles have a small groove from the leather seals.
Installing the Speedi Sleeves - use the installation tool and use a pipe over
the axle shaft to drive the sleeve into place.

Any other ideas would be appreciated.

thanks

I always used Devcon plastic steel to keep them on the spot they need to be. If they are very close to proper size, they should be relatively easy to drive in place. After the epoxy has cured, I use a set of diagonal cutters and duck bill pliers to break and remove the drive ring off. They have a score built in to aid in removal of the drive ring. Being circular, I cut or deeply crease the outer removable part and then start working the removable part with the duck bills till it comes off. If the drive ring doesn't interfere with the seal or installation then it can be left in place to simplify things a bit.

They will only work on shafts that are the same basic diameter from the splined or tapered end all the way to the seal surface to be sleeved. I've seen a few shafts that have a larger diameter on the splined end so the only effective way to repair them is by either welding or plating back to size.

you can try heating the sleeve in oil then fitting to axle often they just expand enough to slip on then shrink into place as they cool down [but you have to be quick ]
