I have read on this forum that you can buy a rebuilt distributor for a 57 to 64 292 at NAPA for about 60 bucks. I also read that it comes with a pretty good curve built in. Screw it in and go.

A remanufactured '57 up distributor is getting hard if not impossible to find. Cardone has quit reman them due to lack of cores. Autozone, O'Reilly's etc. all are Out of stock and on back order.

Some offer a rebuild service but you have to supply the core. Best bet is to go to a Bone Yard and get a good candidate to rebuild.

I just saw a Reman go on ePay for $300 so the gougers are already on to it.

edit; And no a FE will not work.

Another thought, you could write to Pertronix and ask them to start making their "Stock Look" distributors for our cars since the stock remans are no longer available. Maybe if they gey enough requests they'll make them.

I've got one out of a '57 Y-block in a cardboard box in the garage. Been there for about 30 years. But they say that the '59-up dizzy has a better advance mechanism than the 57/58, so if that is the reason you are looking for one, you might be better off looking for a '59-up for a y-block.

I looked at some on ebay - wow, unbelievable what some sellers are asking for them nowadays! The resurgence in Yblock popularity is certainly reflected in the high asking prices. I wonder if they're actually selling?

Ron, more like supply and demand. If you can't get something the price goes up...

If you can dig up a used one, Bubba's can rebuild it. Not too expensive either.

Anything from 57 to 62 will work.

63 and 64 Y blocks were in trucks only.
I ordered one from Advance last year for less than $50 with no core charge and free shipping after finding some coupon codes.

Herman, I see Advance lists a Cardone Reman for ~$45+ $10 core which is a good price. Doesn't say if they have any in stock...

They also list a New Richporter Distributor. Does anyone know anything about these?

Here is the ebay listing:http://www.ebay.com/ctg/Cardone-Indu...4517777?_tab=1 Even Rock Auto has zero in stock,Summit gets a $30 core charge but it shows N/A or not available suggests "wish list".Guess you should grab the ebay unit.

I saw those also. I find it strange that they don't list that they're for a Y-Block or 292 or something in the title so people doing a search can find them easier.
