Lightbulb Turn signals - not working when engine running

I just installed LED turn signals on my 31 W/B pick up. They worked well when the engine was not running but were very inconsistent with the engine running. FIX Change coil wire to a radio suppression wire. NOTE All my accessory wiring is located on a board attached to the screws for the junction box inside the cab.

You may have lost your ground by doing it that way. Try running a separate wire to it.

So are you saying this fixed it?

I have found the same thing on several 12 volt old cars. I shortened one coil wire from 7000 ohms down to 3000 ohms, at which stage the RF interference was enough to stop the electronic flasher cans ( one for each side of the car, using the original trafficator circuits for both the flashers and trafficators) from flashing. I then made another coil wire using a length that gave 3500 ohms and that car still works well. At 7000 ohms the spark was noticeably weaker..
The same thing happened to a reversing camera in my friends 1931 Tudor. I don't recall if it was 6 or 12 volt, but a carbon core coil wire fixed the non- working camera too. I imagine RF radiation was the cause here too.

The rest of the lighting connects to the generator. RF will generally only affect radios. Connected that close to the ignition coil, it might have a little affect. LEDs are sensitive to system current draw in relation to the type of signal stat the system has. Some folks use resistors in parallel with the LEDs and others use an electronic signal stat.

Electronic flasher or old style (electro-mechanical) ?
Just curious.

Some of the electronic flashers are sensitive to the noisy ignition system on the A. There are a couple fixes for this problem. The one I like is to install a good quality filter right off of the battery, use that clean power for any accessory you want to run, including your LED signal lights. The second way is to install a mechanical flasher and then put resistors to ground on the light outputs. The nice thing about the 1st option is you have nice clean power for your other accessories such as phone charger, backup camera, etc.
