Default 1946 Mercury Courtesy Lights Cover Fitment.

[/ATTACH]430604

So I removed covers for changing 6v to 12v. The backside is attached to pillar frame by 2 screws. The cover has the lens secured by 3 tabs.
Do these tabs fit into the frame containing the lamp? The replacemet lamp slightly different profile to original. When I removed the covers they were very firm and secure. Assistance for refitting and secure fitment appreciated. As cant seem to now get a good fit.

Sounds like the bulbs may be too big.

Nope bulbs are smaller as there are also 2 tags which go round bulbs.
Is it only these tags whch go round the bulb which secure cover?

Phil it should fit no problem. Ensure that when you put the chrome bezel back on to the bulb holder that you bend the tabs back in the right place so that they fit in the cut outs for the piece that secures to the pillar by the 2 screws. I presume you are using the same two securing screws that you took out when you removed the unit ? If you are using new ones too big a head will not allow the bulb holder to press home all the way on the part that goes in the pillar.

Using the same 2 screws as removed. Iwas trying to slide ovr the cut outs.
So just to adjust tabs to secure bulb as you point out. Thinking about it now it has to be that way especially with the one that has the switch included.
Thanks.

The bezel, frosted glass and the metal piece in unit should push straight into the bulb holder screwed to the door pillar. There are two slots in the metal piece that pushes into the bulb holder which in turn has two locating pins
