All flatheads up to 41 were ford green and black oil pans. 42 was a dark blue. I believe 46-48 were dark blue. Walt

Is there just one Ford green? I have two blocks and one is a lighter green and the other is very dark. Who sells the right tint?

Bill

Not all Ford dark green engine paint offered by todays parts suppliers were created equal. You will find variations from the different suppliers. Not sure who to recommend that supplies the exact color engine green that Henry once used for the early FH blocks. The original block on my '35 fordor has a very thin, washed out looking coating of dark green paint. I've had a can of dark green paint that I have used to brush coat my 21 stud engines with for about the last 10 years. I believe I bought this from either Bill Hersch(sp) or MAC's in about 2001. Looks good to me and the judges have never said it did not look correct but then I could care less about what the judges think or say ... oh wait...what am I saying...I am a judge .

The lighter green was used on Mercury and some truck engines but that wasn't till 49.

Rust-oleum rattle can 7733 Dark " Hunter Green " is very close to original Ford Green and has a good spray pattern. One can will coat at least 4 engines.

Is that "High heat" paint? I've got a 21-stud that needs painting.

I have used Rustoleum enamel brush on paints on engine blocks in the past and it has always held up well. I can't recall using their spray can paints on an engine block or other hot surfaces so cannot comment there.
