I don't remember ever seeing a manual top in this period other than the small BIRD ... ...

Now the later MUST had them. I would think it would be quite a fight to wrestle a 59 FORD CONV TOP ...

If it did come through manual, power would have been the option.

But who knows, I learn something new everyday ...

Except for the early Birds, Ford had power tops (no manuals that I am aware of) starting at least with 1941 and lasts to this day. I doubt the 59 had a manual top. Pull up the rear seat and see if there is a pump underneath it.

Can’t speak about Fords, but the other guys had manual tops with power as an option as late as 69 on one model that I know of. Were all early Mustangs power tops?

An interesting bit of trivia i learned on that project. Optional power tops were more popular on the east coast than the west. In SoCal and the southwest (in those simpler days) you didn’t need to put the top up nearly as often.
