You need about 3 ohms of resistance with 12v (really a little over 14v running). Normally accomplished with 1.5 ohm coil coupled with a 1.5 ohm ballast resister OR a 3.0 ohm coil.

No problem running your distributor on 12v as long as you have the right coil.
