FDR had several Ford cars outfitted with hand controls so he could drive around his estate. He had a 1936 Ford Phaeton, a 1938 Ford Phaeton and I think he also had a 1939 Ford Convertible Sedan. None of these cars, which are well documented, were equipped as a "Dual Cowl" phaeton or equipped with a second windshield.

Additionally, Ford Motor Company did not produce phaetons with dual windshields during the 1930s. A quick internet search will bring up info and photos of FDR's Fords. Very easy to find images of these cars.

It is possible that there could have been an after-market rear passenger compartment windshield available, or one could have been installed that came from another car...???

I saw a 36 Ford Deluxe Phaeton with the dual windshield at a local car show this past weekend. It is a beautiful car. Someone said it was a former FDR car. It is going to be auctioned in January. Go to ftlauderdaleauction.com , then to lot#521, to see pictures of the car.

I have tried to remember where I saw it in a catalogue , I think it was restoration speciality or restoration supply --- not the one selling weatherstrip , but I haven't seen them at Hershey the past few years. They sold parts for making trunks and stuff suited for 20s--30s cars

I have seen those windshields for sale on ebay in the past. There were after market ones made for the larger cars of the day. It's not impossible to think that someone could have installed that. If I had a 4 door convertible, I might have even installed one because it's a display of a neat accessory.

FROM POST #3: "Additionally, Ford Motor Company did not produce phaetons with dual windshields during the 1930s".

That's not entirely true. In 2003 at the Concourse 'D Elegance at Pebble Beach, I saw a 1930 Ford Dual Cowl Phaeton. May not have been a mass manufactured car, but FORD produced at least one.

Fourfords - That was Edsel Ford's personal car, custom built for him.

Here are some photos of FDR's Fords. No second windshield on these cars. Extremely doubtful that the car that 38coop saw at the local auto show is an FDR car.

I stand by my statement: Ford Motor Company did not offer Dual Cowl or Dual Windshield Phaetons during the 1930s.

The 38 is on display at Roosevelt's Little White House Historic Site in Warm Springs GA. There are tales of him zipping around the GA back roads in it, much to the chagrin of the Secret Service.

I first saw it there when I was a child MANY years ago - probably where I got bitten by the old car bug.
