16 inch wheel runout
I purchased a set of kelsey hayes wheels a while back and they have been setting in my garage unused. Today I decided to look look them over a little more closely. I put them on the front of one of my cars and spun them. All five have at least two spots where the runout is about !/8 of an inch. Is this acceptable ? How much runout do 16 inch wheels normally Have ? thanks

Re: 16 inch wheel runout
I would think .125 is not really bad, but not optimal. How is the wobble? I try to find wheels under .075, but KH are not hard to find. Brent has a post here on FB about how to properly straighten wheels. Rod

Humble Opinion: Thousands & thousands of Model A owners over the past (80) or so years would love to have had just one (1) Model A problem, i.e., a 1/8" run out on their steel wheels while driving with four (4) or five (5) big flexible mounted 16" tire. Tinkering with wheel straightners & heating wire wheel spokes with torches & cool shrinking the spokes will only lead to possibly far more runout problems & even wheel off center problems. Just get it going, drive it often, & have fun. |
