Ford Motor Co during the war.
Just happened to come across this and thought you may find it interesting as it shows some of the vehicles and weapons Ford was building for the military.

Re: Ford Motor Co during the war.
My Dad picked this really cool poster years ago at a MVPA meet that someone put together and we show it with our GP. As you can see it is every vehicle Ford produced for the war effort.

Re: Ford Motor Co during the war.
Many years ago I was at a junk yard in Nebraska that had an M8 converted to the yard wrecker. They had a boom welded to the gun turit for a rotating lifter upper thing. When I was in my ww2 craze, Nebraska was great hunting grounds. After the war, there was only a few bases that were the official surplus outlets, about 7 places I think, sorry, years ago I could name them, but now with fords on the brain...its gone. but, anyway, one was Omaha, and another was colorado springs. Typical of the pentigon, we needed to ship things to another location to sell them, back in those days. So, my point is, Nebraska folks had good access on both ends, east and west, to a surplus sale. I was big in halftracks, had 11 at one point, and western Nebraska sand hills was a great place to hunt for army junk. In 1949 the great blizzard that crippled the plains was proof of what the surplus vehicles could do. The National Gaurd ran around with halftracks and Studebaker weasels to feed families and cattle thru great snow depths, and after that the ranchers all wanted one. The sand hills was only navigable by horse until they had halftracks, and also those ford 8&9 n with track units were popular also. sorry for the ramble...I am down to one jeep now...thats enough! there is a very good youtube video from Wyoming PBS on the blizzard of 49 if interested.

Re: Ford Motor Co during the war.
I would like to see some pictures of the twin engine ford transport trucks, used to take aircraft for final assembly. I'm wondering if any survived, and how many were there, thanks.

Re: Ford Motor Co during the war.
Yes V8Coopman
The Ford GP is quite the interesting study and would be a "Fun" vehicle for the FordBarn experts to pick apart AS it is the quintessential "parts bin raid" vehicle......IN reality it "IS" still a "prototype" as parts from 35-36 to 39-41 are abound.......THEN there are the "FEW" GP specific pieces that, TODAY, are as hard and impossible to find as hen's teeth, that would render it impossible to restore to 100% correct AND "IF" were found would cost you 3/4's of the cost of the worth of the vehicle. Had my Dad NOT been collecting and buying parts and pieces (the engine even before we had a GP) for over 30 years, I don't think that this jeep could have been restored today!!! Currently there are about 280 accounted for out of the previous post "experimental" production number of 4458 and approx 70% of those are running. |

Re: Ford Motor Co during the war.
It always amazes me that they went from passenger vehicles to full military production and back again in such a short period of time.
