Speed bleeders for 1949 F1
just getting ready to bleed my brake lines, I would appreciate any input for using Speed Bleeder for this project.
Or other alternatives would be helpful. First time doing this process...... 1949 Ford F1 |

Re: Speed bleeders for 1949 F1
The only "speed bleeder" I am familiar with are 'Speed bleeders' which replace the (4) bleeders with a new design bleeder that allows one person to bleed the brakes using the pedal.
They work great.

Re: Speed bleeders for 1949 F1
If you have replaced your wheel cylinders, check the bleeder screw threads carefully. Mine are metric. :-(

I installed the speed bleeders on my 39 Coupe. They work great. I purchased mine direct from Speed Bleeders.

Re: Speed bleeders for 1949 F1
I have them on my 48. They’re the only way to go in my opinion. Makes bleeding brakes literally painless and quick. Not to mention a one person job.

Re: Speed bleeders for 1949 F1
No PN , but repco and super cheap sell the one man bleeder kit .As i imagine do Napa and autozone and O’Reilly’s Works like a charm . Mechpro one man bleeder kit. No need to change the wheel cylinder bleeders ,i dont profess to know the “speed bleeders”. Mechpro is Kinda like a hollow golf tee and a bottle with a magnet . never had it fail on my own ,over numerous cars bled .

They work great on my 53' Merc. Makes me wish I had done it years ago.

Re: Speed bleeders for 1949 F1
Started to bleed brakes today, two guys method. Back brakes worked fine, no luck on the front. Front brakes only - new brake cylinders and shoes, re-surfaced drums. Nothing but air coming out of front when we tried to bleed.... what did I do wrong or what's happening, you guys will know..... Thanks

Re: Speed bleeders for 1949 F1
Check fluid in master cylinder, could be drawing air if fluid is to low. Also check all your
connections for loose screws or flare nuts, and faulty flex hose.

Re: Speed bleeders for 1949 F1
And you need to start over on the brake bleeding as there will be air in the lines. No way you can possibly bleed brakes without constantly checking the MC fluid level.

Re: Speed bleeders for 1949 F1
If you have access to the fluid chamber thru the hole left after the hex bolt/plug is removed you can fill it thru there, you do not have to remove the squared cap/cover.

Re: Speed bleeders for 1949 F1
Those style of MC caps are the devil. I ended up completely removing mine and used an older one instead. Even after taking off either the hex or the square head pieces, the MC can be tough to refill. Having made a proper mess - and a small pond of brake fluid - trying to urge fluid into the opening, I took the MC off and removed the dang piece. All is happy now.

Maybe you travel to Danbury WI and give me a few pointers. Nothing but problems with this brake project that I should never have started.....

Re: Speed bleeders for 1949 F1
Got it done, MC cap removed, no brake fluid, only one brake left to do, still working on that one.... definitely had to get the square cap off, it was difficult but finally got it off.
Lots of help from you guys, now I've done a brake replacement, drove truck to car on Sunday, lots of great comments..... |
