40/41 pickup bed spare tire location
Trying to determine the location of the spare tire mount. Anyone have specifics on stock location. Angle of carrier to top of bed? Angle of "triangle or V at top of carrier" in accordance to stake post (see last two pics)? Location of carrier to bed side? Any measurements would be great. Also I am assuming stock was to have it welded correct? Thanks.

40fordpu,
You will probably get responses to your questions if you post this in the Early V8 section. Sal |

Re: 40/41 pickup bed spare tire location
That U-bracket needs to be positioned in exactly the right spot so that the tire can mount so that it fits close to that little dent in the fender and the bottom of the tire does not hit the running board. Take a look and see if you have enough room to put a tire there. It looks like your bed is pushed back too far on the frame. The way it looks in the photo, there isn't room to open the passenger door if the tire is mounted.
Google 1940 Ford pickup truck photos and look at them. You will see at least two trucks that have the spare tire bracket without the tire mounted on it. I think you really need a factory template for proper placement. Last edited by Daves55Sedan; 08-06-2018 at 10:34 PM. |

Are 38-39 pickups different then the 40's. They share the same bed. Totally different spare tire bracket. Curious?

I don't know if this helps or not, when I mounted mine I bolted the spare on it and positioned it so the tire had about 1 inch clearance around the indent in the fender. marked it and welded it looks great and no one ever said hey that is in the wrong position,

I'll go out and take a pic of mine and try to post it, I'll get some measurements too.
