Default 39 deluxe hood arm and spring support

does the 39 deluxe hood arm and spring support have 2 bolts for bolting to the cowl. mine only has the one bolt hole and the hood arms that I've looked at have two for the deluxe. mine are getting weak and wobbly so I want to replace them. I know my standard has the one mounting hole. if some one with a deluxe has a pic they could post that would be a big help. I'll try and post a pic of what I have now. thanks a bunch.

Here ya go...
Lot's of folks think nearly all parts are the same 39 - 40. This is yet another instance where they simply are NOT the same.

Mercman, That's a great photo and shows well that the std. is NOT the same as the deluxe. Nearly all of the reproduction places claim they are the same.
Thanks for the post.

kube was it the later 39's that had the 2 bolts that went from the arm to the cowl or was just that a 1940 addition ?

Here is the mechanism that was fitted on the 1938 Ford Deluxe models. Notice that it does not have a Spring. To close, you have to lift first before lowering. This attachment was only on one side, and led to many damaged Hoods when inexperienced people tried to lower the Hood by just pulling down. Ford fixed the problem on the "look alike" 1939 Ford Standard models.

I've restored a LOT of '39 Deluxe models, from very, very early production to quite late. I've never witnessed the '40 style support on any of them.
That doesn't mean it didn't happen of course...
The engineering drawings show the "new" style with the extra hinged piece (with two holes) being released for production at the end of May, 1939 and were to be utilized "as soon as possible".
That's very ambiguous to say the least.
So again, the possibility exists that some '39 deluxe models were fitted with the "new" design. How many I suppose is anyone's guess. My guess is not many.
Keep in mind to utilize the "new" design, all of the tooling that produced the dash panel (firewall) as well as both the right and left cowl panels had to be modified to accept them. Plus, the logistics of getting all of those parts together as an assembly and getting the "new" supports on line at the same time as the cowl / dash assembly...

Do you know of anybody who sells that kind of hood support rod and the hardware to fasten it to the firewall

Australian 1939 Ford Deluxe. Notice on this car that the Springs are mounted at the top of the Arm? On the green 39 Ford Deluxe, they are mounted at the bottom of the Arm?

These are mounted incorrectly.

This time around, we show the hood support mechanism on a RHD 1939 Ford Deluxe Coupe from New Zealand. The Spring is at the bottom.

Thanks for the post.

Notice ALSO that a '39 STANDARD has radiator steady rods, whereas a '39 Deluxe does NOT have the two rods. And if I'm not wrong, '39 Standards have a generator-mounted fan, and the DeLuxes have the crank-mounted fans. The pic below shows the rods and fan on a '39 Standard! The "ORANGE" Ford USA did not appear on factory-installed hoses. DD

Mercman, I can't speak definitively as to what was built for new Zealand.
I do have a difficult time believing Ford would have flipped the orientation of the supports for cars destined to your country.
Also, each car depicted with the support upside down has obviously been apart at some point and / or otherwise modified.
None of them shown are what I would term close to proper restorations.

1939 Fords in NZ were pretty much sourced from USA made parts except for the engines ( which were cast in Canada ) and the RHD parts.
Windsor Ontario is only across the river from Detroit.
Order the hood supports from Drake 91A -16802/3.
They have the brackets you need.
Only a matter then of drilling 2 holes on each side or the cowl.
