Default 48 coupe- Button on floorboard like dimmer switch - what is it?

I am wondering what the button on the floor, lower and to the right of the dimmer switch is.

It sounds like the foot control switch for the radio.

Depending on the year of the car, it might just be the foot rest next to the accelerator. My 1934 Ford coupe has that rest.

Most likely it is the remote radio tuner (we have on in our '47 Convertible) it looks just like the headlight dimmer switch and should be located on the floorboard between the clutch and brake. If you pull the rubber floor mat up, you'll see an indention in the floor board for the wire to sit in. the wire goes up the inside of the cowl, dash board or firewall, (which ever you prefer to call it) and attaches to the radio on the drivers side. This was a optional accessory, not all '42 to '48 radios had remote switch capability.

There were also windshield washers that had a foot pump. Does it have wires or hoses?? I doubt you have this but you never know. G.M.

Foot control for the radio must be what it is; looks exactly like the headlight dimmer switch and is located where Vic said. The car has a radio. Since nothing is working right now, I didn't have a clue. I am pulling the floor board up and had to remove the screws that mount it, but it's still connected, so for now I'll leave it alone. I will have to remove the radio before long, so it's good to know about the remote switch. Thanks barners.

Here in the South moonshine transporters rigged another dimmer switch for use in killing the tail, brake and tag lights in the event of a chase on a dark night. Maybe your car has a checkered past???
