Default Barn find

Found a Doodle Bug that had been in the barn for many years. The engine was partially disassembled but all there. Took one picture when I got it on the trailer.

Were doodle bugs precursors to ATV's? Were they raced? What all were they used for?

That sure looks like a helluva cowl and hood top, I'd love to score those! Great find!

This one was used as a tractor on a Mennonite farm in Tennessee . It is on a AA chassis that had been shortened.

David, am I correct that the hood is now a tilting hood with that "hinge strap" that goes back to the rear of the cowl lamp arm location?

Is that an air cooled model? J/k. That looks pretty sharp.

dave,
looks like fun tinker project of great yard art!
hmm, don't know where the name 'doodlebug' comes from. but back on the hill 'truck' farms penna, these were often seen and used as garden tractors. the ones that i remember has the huge rear ends/trans and were used to pull stumps also!
