i'm trying to adjust my steering box (2 tooth) but i'm having a problem when i turn to lock clock wise the col. wants to pull out of the steering box. i'm trying different things but seem to be fighting myself. i've got the ford a manual with the steering adjust section but it doesn't talk about my problem. any ideas? thanks

Are the bearings on the worm gear tight and locked in position?

There is a screw on the top of the box at the col. Is it missing?

That's the one! If you loosen the lock nut and tighten the bolt, it will push the top bearing down to tighen it, but be careful, I've seen a few cracked top bearing outer races from forcing the race. Of course you also have to loosen the clamp before tighening the bearing race adjustment bolt.
