Default Good looking Phaeton

I saw this on Ebay and I sure wish I had the dough for it. Original 1950's build from the owner's estate. It has a lot of cool features. 60hp flatty Pontiac tailights, Topeka High Trojans sticker in the rear window, etc. I just think it would have been great to see this packed full of teenagers in 1950 blazing down Topeka Blvd.!! I love the looks of the side curtains too. This would be a fun one with some neat history.

Ha!!! That's cool!! I like yours too! Here's the link to the auction. As you can see, they have it starting high and it's at an "auto museum" so I guess they want top dollar. My opinion is that they should start it a bit lower just to get the bids rolling but what do I know. I would trade all of my cars, projects and junk to get this one (still wouldn't be enough though!!). I really like it! Maybe someone will get lucky!!

Seems to me they've owned this one a while. It's a neat car for sure, but I doubt they'll get top dollar the market the way it is.

Yeh ..wanting 22,900 seems a bit high.

Registration capability would be the major item on this one.

To put a flattie in a Model A here in OZ, would require a boxed chassis at start, then almost every other mechanical part of a modern donor car to pass.

Things like burst proof door locks . seat belts, headrests, demisters, the list goes on.

It would be nothing but a hot rod.

This one looks cool if it was able to be driven on the streets in that guise.

The dealer is drawing a long bow saying that it is just like it came out a time capsule.

With a crappy green metallic paint blow over, no hession on the back of the front seat, and home made vinyl seat recovers.

I see alot of St. Louis Auto Museum cars listed literally for years. They have a 1915 Maxwell that has been on ebay for nearly three years. I guess they don't mind letting cars sit until a fat wallet stumbles along.

It sure looks like a better start for a restoration project than many others that I have seen. I motor, headlight and steering wheel change would allow you to post freely here and they would only complain about the color, etc, etc!.

On Monday, I went to a friends house to look at the little roadster, and when he took me to another of his buidings the hood was up on another Model A. A closer look revealed a similar motor swap, like in the Phaeton, and my friend started telling me how he had run across several of these and knew that two of them were dealer swaps, trying to upgrade their sales. This particular one was dealer installed in the early '40's he said, as it had belonged to his brother.

I enjoyed seeing it, and hope the new owner preserves it for what it is, a piece of American History frozen it time. Lots of A's were "Train Station" cars back in the '50's and '60's, nice to see one untouched. I don't think it broke any site rules, just slightly bent them. Merry Christmas! Bob

I wouldn't worry about anyone calling any full size passenger car (even a Model A) a "hot rod" with a 60-HP motor. It might have a little more pep than the 40-HP 4 banger but not much more. Plus it is a Ford L-head V8 and that is what the Ford Barn is all about.

Don't worry about the purists, who think that this does not belong here. Not too many of us have 100% cars, that we haul around on trailers. Most of us don't even own trailers.
Thanks again,

Thanks Mr. Bugsy for the post, I really enjoy seeing a good looking Model A Ford any time, even if it was all original, with 40 year old road kill in the back seat. The process is buy a car, restore the car your self, or if you can't do the work yourself, find a good restorer, that doesn't Whine, B---h, Moan, Tattle Tail, Brown Nose, or don't play well with others. Then you sell all the parts that you didn't use, like a running 60 V-8, to help pay for for the restoration. Mr. Bugsy, I like to see any car, and discuss what is original, and what is not. It Sharpen's your eye, and is a learning experience, for correct year parts, thats why I an here. I think you filled the Model A sites Requirement very nicely. Thanks Herm.

The people who enjoy this hobby ,are the people who understand that for about 100years people have been changing parts around on these cars. I have several early fords, the ones that i like the most are the 100% original ,but I am not so narrow minded that i can't excuse and enjoy some of the brilliant modifyed projects i see. Dang, now I don't know what to do, shall I stay, or shall I go? My brake system is stock, so I answered a question a member had. My electrical wiring is stock but has 12 volts on it, so I answered another members question. My drivetrain is stock (no overdrive) from the throw out bearing back to the stock wheels. I hacked a 31 pickup, as a result I was able to answer another forum members question. Ditto for my cooling system.

Alas, my engine has been modified... am I now a know nothing that cannot contribute? I feel like the Jack-In-The-Box guy, should I stay, or should I go?

High compression head, alternator, forklift carb, inserted bearings, and a fuse. Do i not belong? Truth is majority of the hobbist do not drive/restore perfectly original cars.

I usually agree with Brent, but this time I don't.
my vote is to keep this thread where it is with the Model As.

which begs the question, "when does it stop being a Model A?"

our reply is "when ever I think it does"
sort of a moving target / situational ethics thing.........

this would be a FUN car to drive around in good weather, but totally impractical for Judy & I.

this is not the typical St.Louis Auto Museum car, either. most of their eBay offerings have VERY shiny paint, serious deficiencies under the hood, and prices that seem excessive for the mechanical condition.......

Are the self appointed FORDBARN Police going to banish everyone who has a high compression head, or downdraft carburetor, or T-5 transmission, or Mitchell overdrive, or incorrect paint color, or 16" wheels, or non-authentic upholstery, or aluminum radiator, etc. from FORDBARN and allow them on H.A.M.B. only ?

Brent...

I guess if you dont like what he showed here as a car just dont look at it.

I dont know of ONE Model A Ford that is totally 100% original as a time capsule car. NOT ONE. And neither do you nor does anybody else. Even Marco's roadster has been painted and has had body work done on it...so.....not original.

I have made some modifications on my A that, based on your comments, would not let me post here.

I think if Ryan has a problem HE should delete any post or thread; it is his site...not yours....not mine... .

Getting all riled up like you are is not good for this site, not good for the hobby, and not good for you.

So the car as a V-8 and an incorrect steering wheel and incorrect upholstery......so what?

Just let it go, man....just let it go.

I know Vbulletin based forums such as this one have an ignore feature. I don't know if that feature is activated here, but if so- just put people on your ignore list and their posts won't show up in threads as you read them.

I still think it is a nice "'50's" daily driver, if it was a Hot Rod it sure wouldn't have the 21" wheels on it, along with every other stock feature.

Thanks for the tip Mitch. Sometimes it's alot easier to put someone on the ignore list to avoid drama or whatever other BS may arise from blowhards and holier than thous.

If anyone was wondering the battery box bracket on this A is a Model T Ford item. Wonder if it is the photo angle that makes the battery look as large as the V8-60?

No, there's quite a few differences. Door thickness is one and the curve on the rear bustle is slightly different. The cowl is roadster and of course the windshield area is a whole different set of parts. Fenders will fit as will everything else that bolts on below the belt line.

It's real easy to spot a four door conversion.
