Adding red fluid to the fuel guage - 1935 Model 48
Good morning,
I have a working fuel gauge (1935 Model 48 Deluxe) that indicates tank level with the red fluid. Problem is that when my tanks is full it is showing only 1/2 tank. It is possible with a bit of small tubing to add the fluid to the gauge with it mounted in the dash to bring it to 'Full Indication' ? I seemed to recall the small tube is open on top if I could get to it. Anyone out there done this before? Thanks! |

Yes it is possible to ad fluid. Remove the gauge 2 mounting screws and pull gauge lose from panel. Then use a hipodermic syringe to install fluid. The big problem is buying the correct fluid of good quality.Hope this helps. Dave Collette

Great thanks! I actually already have some of the fluid so I'll give that a try this evening.

You can use the tube from a ball point pen ,

The problem could well be at the tank unit which has small cup like chambers on the air line. If any of the 2 or 3 cups has a hole or cracks it will leak pressure and won't register correctly. I have soldered up many of these after glass beading them and then they work.
Good luck. |

The 'red' is extremely corrosive. It will destroy the entire gauge. I had a post on it w/pics of my destroyed gauge; don't spill it! Don't sniff it. skull & crossbones warning, take heed.
