What type of bearing clearances were you running for the rear main? I always open the rear main up a bit more than the front two - as it tends to expand more due to the heat from the clutch.

Just curious if you happen to know?

Thanks!

A friend of mine built it and ran it in his dragster for a number of years. He's built several flatheads and being a machinist is very particular and capable. However, anything is possible,

When using a flathead for racing I learned the rear main bearing needs a lot of clearance to survive. From what I see in your picture that damage is from its racing life not the type of oil filter system you were running. If it was filter related every bearing would show damage not just the rear main.

You guys are using oil filters? I guess I've been lucky the last 50k+ miles running without one. hmm

I've built too many engines with the Factory 66/95 oilfilter system To criticize it!!! Yes there are better systems, but this system is better than the original, and simple to make.

There's a simple answer to that problem. When the oil lines to the filter are connected backwards that's what starves the bearings . The system/conversion is not at fault its the individual who connects the oil lines incorrectly.
