Yes - there was an arbor that looked like the end of the tapered axle.

Here are the arbors for an Ammco brake lathe. The special "skinny" arbor is mounted in the machine, while I'm holding the standard arbor in front.

Worth asking about as some places may have the arbor laying on the bottom shelve and no longer are aware of it's use.

A shop specializing in VW's may also have the set-up to do rear drums.

Interesting photo Rich. The arbor in your hand looks like it would seat on a flat spot inside the taper portion of the hub, then tighten the big nut on the end. Not tapered like an axle. I have tried to make an arbor from an old axle shaft and have never been able to make one run true on the lathe even with the tail stock in a center.

Contact a local club and find out who has the equipment and knowledge to do it right. If you have to ship them to somebody. Be careful some modern shops will want to remove the drums from the hubs to turn then and you will have a bigger problem when they give them back to you in pieces.

Remember the next thing you need is someone to arc the shoes.

The Barrett brake lathe had a adapter that fit into the wheel bearing with the seal still in place, and a tapered cone for the outside

I have been looking at any shop local and longer reasonable driving distance for months without any luck. Trying to get two 35 rear drums turned. Many of the local shops have broken machines which they can not justify to pay for repairs. It appears I will have to drive an hour each way and make an adapter to fit an arbor to have the drums turned.

I’m in Beamsville, Ontario and can also turn rear drums, for anyone in southern Ontario Canada. Drop off only, not interested in shipping.
