Default 34 clutch release lever question

i'm installing a 38ish transmission in a 34, and i see the release arm is about 3/4" shorter than a correct 34. will it work? i ask because it now will have a 10" long style clutch instead of the multi fingered what ever its called original style clutch. perhaps that style needed the longer arm and mine wont? i'm hoping, as its all in good shape, bushings etc, so i'd like to just put it in. i have the 34 arm, just thought i'd ask before fighting the pin holding it on. thanks, skip
