Which copper head gasket with Snyder's 5.5:1 head?
I have a Snyder's 5.5:1 head on a AER touring engine and I just blew my head gasket. I had a copper B gasket with copper kote on both sides. I have not removed the head yet, but I want another copper gasket and would like to use the one that people have had good luck with. Thanks

Rich@ AER uses those silicone modern style gaskets the last time I heard with a 5.5 head

I like the Best brand gasket available from secretsofspeed.com. Not copper, not sure what kind of space age material but highest quality available.

Re: Which copper head gasket with Snyder's 5.5:1 head?
I have an engine rebuilt by AER with 5.5 head, larger intake and exhaust valves, balance crank, Stipe touring cam. Blew a head gasket with only 2000 miles on it, replaced the with the same red silicone bead on it. It blew with less 500 miles. After doing some investigation , decided to try the BEST gasket. Got 5000 miles on this gasket, and all is well. You can get them from Arizona Model A in Chandler AZ or Secrets of Speed Society.

Re: Which copper head gasket with Snyder's 5.5:1 head?
Rich at AER now recommends the Best Co Composition gasket, modern style, this gasket becomes sticky when heated and seals better, and doesn't require copper coat , the failure rate of the silicone gasket is well known.

Re: Which copper head gasket with Snyder's 5.5:1 head?
Thanks, answered my own question...
From "Secrets of Speed" website; BEST GASKET COMPANY: makes our very special cylinder head gaskets like this: GraphTite™ consists of a Kevlar reinforced graphite facing material is mechanically bonded to both sides of a perforated steel core. This modern engineered, high-performance material is rated to a temperature of 1400 degrees-F. Steel fire rings are installed around the combustion chamber areas of the gasket. GraphTite™ head gaskets have superb sealing characteristics, excellent torque retention, and hold up to the punishment dished out by high-performance engines – high quality all the way. This gasket might be overkill for cruiser engines, but so what . . extra performance never hurts! |
