Windshield frame gasket
Which way does the gasket go in the windshield frame? I am guessing that it goes such that it is slightly pointing backwards toward the cowl like in the attached photo. Am I right?
Also, is the steel channel bent down to hold the gasket firm after the gsket has been put in place or is the gasket slipped in with some kind of lubrication after the channel has been straightened and bent to where it should be? |

Re: Windshield frame gasket
I use silicone spray to slide it in the channel. I also find I have to spread the channel in certain spots. Make sure you tap the channel back in place or it will screw your paint up when you close the window as it will rub the body. The gasket points back towards the body to create a seal

Re: Windshield frame gasket
As you assumed, pointed backward. Also, it is easier if you have a helper and a hot, sunny day. Leave the rubber outside in the sun until it is real warm and then get your helper to clamp a vice-grip on the meaty portion of one end. Spray the channel with silicone lube, thread your end in one side and play tug-o-war with your helper as you pull the stretched seal in all the way through the channel and leave at least a half inch out on each side. Put the frame with the seal in it back out in the sun for awhile, then bring it in and set it aside overnight. Tomorrow you can trim to fit.

Re: Windshield frame gasket
Remember, the corners are cut at 45*, so allow enough length for that.
