Default 34 glovebox radio front cover?

I'm working on getting my dash finished and ready to reinstall. I'm wanting to install a glove box radio and like everything else I'm working with on this 34, everything is a basket case. I understand there is a cover that goes over the front of the radio, mine doesn't have one. I assume that it would be painted with the same walnut burl pattern as the rest of the dash. My question is what is everyone doing about making this cover plate, I haven't seen any around. Thanks for any help.

Here's another gennie, but a different style. Maybe they had two manufacturers?

I believe there was also an ashtray radio for '34. Probably no easier to find than the glove box version, but might give you another option to pursue thereby allowing you to retain the the glove box door you presumably already have. Just a thought.

I always thought the one in David's pics is a repro and Randy's is genuine. The repo ones are a little rougher on the details in my opinion.

You could right as this is the only one I have but the thing that doesn't make sense is the person I bought this radio from { and a mess of other 33-34 stuff } hasn't messed with them since the 70's . Randys sure looks better to me also . The pic is a 34 ashtray radio and that is the type i chase .

David J, Little Dearborn made a repro a long time ago, maybe that's one of theirs. They're still around and would probably know.

Thanks as this is going to make a little room on the shelf . I had no plans to use this radio and now it can find a new home .

Hard to find.
I found one for my 1933 after looking for a year.
Try to get an original, I heard the repros have a hole too small for the channel selector dial, although you could easily shave it down to size.
Keep looking....There was a point I though i would never find one and was contemplating making one out of hobby molding compound and then shaving and filling it down to proper dimensions but I finally found an original that I will need to paint also.

Hi there, The original type glove box radio facia panel is the only one to use and fits perfectly. The modern reproduction panels are crap. The hole for the dial is too small to fit over the rim of the radio dial. The brackets on the rear of the panel are spot welded on leaving an impression on the face of the panel. The hole thing needs considerable reworking to make it fit at all well. Original panels have been on e bay from time to time but are quite pricey at some where in the $150 to $200 range. The panel shown in the photo by Randy is an original. The one in the three photos by David J is a reproduction. Do yourself a favour and buy an original when one comes available. While your waiting for a facia panel you could rebuild/restore your radio. Regards, Kevin.
