Default Hydrostatic 34 Gauge

Today I pulled the tank on the 34 and replaced the fuel sender with a NOS one (Thanks Elmer). What a mission it took me about 6 hours but all finished and the gauge reading and holding for the last 4 hours. The most difficult part was connecting the airline and gas line but I finally managed it. Would have been a lot easier if Henry has put an access panel in the floor pan under the rear seat !
Hopefully won't be a next time but any hints to make it smoother would be appreciated

Inspecting the old gauge revealed a small pin hole in the solder in the airline pipe at the sender head which has probably been the problem -Karl

Most of the 34s do have an access panel in the very rear of the vehicle under the trunk latch pans. Connect and disconnect hydrostatic lines from there. A hole or crack in a solder joint is usually a very easy fix, even for 80 year old solder.

Hi Karl. Both my 34 coupe and fourdoor sedan have an oblong shaped access hole and cover panel for the hydrostatic tank sender. These panels were available as a reproduction item. What body style is your 34 car ? Regards, Kevin.

Fordor and I found the panel under some underseal. Inspecting the joints shows that the sender is installed in the wrong orientation so the joints are rubbing against the floor pan so I will have to do again but the access panel will make things easier
