Default 35 A Phaeton top

Just starting the planning stages for the open car top - and making sure that the irons I "inherited" with the car actually are the correct ones. Two immediate questions.

Firstly the positioning of the two bars on the pin as per the first two photos. Does the smaller bar from the rear iron go on the inside or the outside when the two arms are pinned? I have tried both ways - one side prefers one way whilst the other seems to prefer the other. I have tried to look at photos posted by members but the clarity of those I have found does not make it clear.

Secondly - wood number 2 - as you see from picture 3 it has been cut to fit into the top iron. I am not sure if all manufacturers do the same but the wood is larger one side of the cut than the other. Question is - does the larger side point towards the front or the back of the car?

(I realise pop rivets are not the go - but they sure are handy during the try it and see stages of any workshop activity!)

John

Thanks Tom - Picture #4 answers first query - short bar on the outside. Any thoughts on the direction of the wood?

I don't know about the wood, but would think it would be cut evenly all over so it would be a smooth transition from the metal to the wood.
