Take the filler plug off and pump it in.

Just put the cartridge in a regular grease gun and pump away. It may help to raise the front wheels and turn the steering back and forth. That’s what I did. Some people drill and tap the plug and put in a grease nipple...... Mark

I've had good luck with this in steering boxes.

As I posted about last year, my wife is a retired pastry chef, use one of those triangle shaped plastic bags for piping frosting on cakes...works perfect! (doesn’t taste as good though!)

You can put it in a tin can and put the can in a pot of boiling water for a few min then pour it right in. Take the pot off the heat source so it is no longer boiling to prevent water contamination.

I installed a zerk fitting in an extra filler plug and pump it in via that. With this method, I am 100% certain, the box is full.
Once done, I simply replace the modified cap with the stock cap.

Over on the HAMB we had a "discussion" about how much cornhead grease was appropriate in these old Ford boxes. I was of the school that fill it up to the plug was good. Others said fill it halfway to allow some expansion room.

I'd think if a guy was to install a zerk and kept filling til he couldn't anymore, he may blow it up through the top bearing and begin filling his column tube too.

Discuss....

Make up a 1/4 tube to screw onto your grease gun ,insert into through the filler hole and down in the box and fill the box from the bottom.

I suppose a guy could do just as you suggest. I guess a little common sense would be necessary to not fill it too far...

common sense is a foreign idea to an old Ford nut--just my two cents worth

I use hub wheel bearing grease that 18 wheelers use in their wheel bearings. A thick liquid with stop leak.

I just filled my steering box on the tonner with JD cornhead grease about an hour ago. I had an old giant syringe with about a 1" bore and I cut the tapered tip off a bit and at 65 degree temp it sucked up it's capacity in about 10 seconds. It took two helpings to get to just below the fill plug. I didn't want to fill my one good grease gun with something I wouldn't use up. The woodie gets the treatment tomorrow. This syringe has been handy with other fluids such as brake fluid. Maybe from a veterinary supply?

Exactly... we have a box of them for the horses. I on occasion will use one in the shop for different purposes.

Good point. Nothing quite like the aroma of hot 90w wafting from the oven on Thanksgiving......
