Default how to Remove Replace Rumble Seat Latch

I have a 30 Coupe with rumble seat and the rumble seat latch won't lock. I want to replace it, but I don't see how to get the locking latch handle out. Is this easy or do I have to take half the rear end off to replace the locking latch handle? Thanks

There should be a crown nut on the bottom of the handle shaft. Remove it and handle should pop out.
Can you post a picture.

How do you get to the crown nut? All I can see on the open side of the lid is a slot with the hook mechanism. I can't post a picture.

Okay...my dumb. I separated the seat back and got to the crown nut and removed the shaft. There seems to be a cross bolt missing that goes horizontally through the square hole . It must move horizontally when the key is turned to engage the inside mechanism and prevent the handle from being able to turn. Anyone know if the replacement handles will fit my original mechanism and do they come with that cross bolt installed in the handle?

To my knowledge no cross bolt in the shaft BUT the lock has a slider piece in it that may have broken off.

This is not your handle but if you look at yours this is what it should look like.
You can see the slider pin clearly.

Yeh...that slider pin is completely missing. I'll order a new handle and hope it fits. Maybe I should look down inside the metal metal lid and see if there's a pin in there. I'd like to keep the original handle and key if possible. Thanks to all for your help. Case closed.

The replacement handle is for door, trunk and rumble lid; the threaded shaft has to be cut to length. The one I got needed the threads chased to get the nut on. My latch had broken the same way as yours, and I could see no way to repair it.

The replacement latchbox needs to be painted to look original, but it can't be seen anyway.

If your handle is original, it probably can be repaired. I like the original handles better than the repos.

I use Dick Crabtree to do all my lock work. Excellent work at a very fairly price and fast turn around.

Contact Dick at 605-487-7229 or [email protected]

That is what I would do.
