Default Rusted up fuel pump again on 49 woody hot rod

The fuel pump on my 49 Ford hot rod rusted up again. I guess only no alcohol gas from now on. Did the same thing in 2016. Plastic gas tank. When it wouldn't start I today removed the fuel line to EFI unit, pumped some gas to a container and found I had reddish fuel and water. Tank had about 5 gallons of alcohol gas in it. Gas tank was reading low from rusted sender so I put in a couple gallons of no alcohol lawn mower fuel in it. Oops, new in tank fuel pump, fuel sending unit, and fuel filter. $300 ouch!

I wonder what the stock gas tank on my 41 woodie flathead looks like inside?

Others had the same experience with alcohol gas?

I put some Rust 911 in tank to hopefully get out all the rusty sediment, will know for sure tomorrow.

You can't leave ethanol fuel in an old car or small engine for long. I've read that it goes bad in 90 days.

I've run 10 % in my three cars for years and never had a problem with it. One car has a poly tank so that may not count. Neither tank, sending unit, carb or pump.

The stuff up here (NJ) lasts a lot longer than 90 days. The gas I put in in Oct. or Nov. is still good (starts the car anyway) until April at least.

No junk like Sta-bil either. In fact, the only time my son had a fuel problem over the winter was when he put Sta-bil in his car.

Rust 911 is taking care of rust in bottom of tank. Here in Texas we have 90F+ temperatures for 9 months of the year.

Clean tank and use a 1/2 bottle of Marvel Mystery Oil every time the
tank is refilled. G.M.

I'm a littler late to the ball game. but it seems to me that there is something else going on here. Rus like this just shouldn't happen.

As your Dad probably would have said:
Plain gas is for running in cars and washing parts.
Av gas is for running in cars and machinery that sits idle for extended periods of time.
Alcohol is for drinking.
Nitro makes cars go fast.

Should run 4 oz to 10 gallons of gas. Does your car smoke?

Ya know, I have had the same experience with you. Modern cars or old cars, each and every one has been fine sitting for months on end. ZERO issues.
I do not use any additives.
