Pickup gears in early gearbox?
Is there any way / trick to mount a gear set from 40’s pickup (29-15 gears) in a 1932 -34 gearbox (18 Case and 40 shift tower)?

Re: Pickup gears in early gearbox?
In some 18- cases I’ve been unable to fit a 29 tooth cluster, and in some I have. It’s though getting the main drive gear in. If it’s the 022a or the 21c gear set you will need to use a later shift tower. If it’s the 67-7113 a 67-7017 gear set then you can use your original shift tower as that gear set used the early synchronizer.
If you have a 4.11 rear end id stay away from the 29 tooth set |

Re: Pickup gears in early gearbox?
Those early cases are not deep enough to install the larger diameter 29 tooth cluster in the usual way. The trick is to install the main drive gear without the bearing. The bearing is installed later. Indeed it is a trick and men that do this install are quite proud of their coordination with the main shaft assembly as part of the trick. Others will add details. Good Luck: Fred A

Re: Pickup gears in early gearbox?
I've often wondered how to use the early shift tower in restoration app. Thanks 35 for the tip. Fred A

Re: Pickup gears in early gearbox?
You can also fit the gears from a mainline into the early box,you need a bit of machining but they fit.

Re: Pickup gears in early gearbox?
Lawrie, are you using 40-48 forks to use to weld onto? That’s what I used.
