Loosening stuck Y-Block distributor for timing advance
edit: SORRY! JUST NOW SEE THE OTHER THREAD ON THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM WITH A 292. I'LL FOLLOW THAT THREAD SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO DUPLICATE EFFORT. THANKS.
The timing needs to be advanced a little on the 239 Y-block in my '54 wagon. I guess I'd never done it before, because after loosening the appropriate lock bolt and plate at the base of the distributor, I can't get it to budge. Rusted on the contact surfaces, maybe? Engine is original and not rebuilt I don't think, so the timing probably hasn't been adjusted in decades. There isn't any rust anywhere else on the shaft or housing I can see. It was covered with residual grease, which I've removed pretty completely. After spraying the penetrating oil at the base for a couple of days and trying to rotate it, the distributor still doesn't want to move. Any suggestions? Or is there something else I'm missing? no most stick over time.keep spraying and tap it but not to hard.sometimes only heat will loosen it.
