Transmission Identification
I have access to a Ford overdrive transmission with identifying numbers as follows: 1A-7006-A-3.90 to 1 R-10F-1 WG Div-W2. Obviously it is a Warner Gear Div. overdrive transmission with a ratio of 3.90 to 1. The question is what was it originally installed in and in what year? Thanks.

Re: Transmission Identification
The 1A-7006 (gearbox casting number) suggests that this is a 1951 Ford passenger car trans. Those were all R10 overdrive units. Not sure what the 390 represents since they all had the 27 tooth cluster gear (2.78:1 on first gear). There are other physical ID charactoristics that would confirm the 1951 vintage. Its usefulness depends on what you want it for. Is it the correct input shaft spline? Tailhousing mount in the right location? Etc.

Re: Transmission Identification
There are only subtle differences between the transmissions from 51 thru 53 Ford and Mercury cars. The all had the 1-inch 10 spline input. The shift housing arragements differed for several different applications. front bolt patterns were all the same. Many of the cars they were used in came with the 3.92:1 rear axle ratio.

I have two Overdrive transmissions, apparently for F-100s, and would like your input into what group of year models these might pertain to: Casting number 1A7006-A & R10F-1, Casting number AF7006-A & R10F-1 Thanks for your help. |
