Just finished up this beauty and thought I would share. I am always looking for new projects if anyone is interested in getting their interior pieces restored. Going on 8 years now doing this high end restoration work and I am excited to see what the next 8 years holds here at Honest Charley. We also just finished up a 1911 Lozier complete build but as this is the Ford Barn I wasn't sure if I should share those photos haha. Hope everyone is staying safe in these crazy times!

That looks great!
Any tips on how you get it to look that nice? I’m sure it’s 90% talent, 10% technique, but I might try that out someday.

When I first came into the Honest Charley Garage as a shop hand, everyone had their own talent as mine was running a broom HAHA. After shadowing the best automotive restoration painters in the business I learned how to spray at a high quality and the detail paint restorations require. I then learned about the history of factory wood graining. After many many attempts on interior parts that I bought from swap meets, painting them time and time again I finally was able to get the quality I wanted. Looking back now I have changed the process with my own technique to give the pieces a more original look that I have seen on original pieces. I normally spend between 40-50 hours on a full set, taking my time to hand paint and copy the grain with a very fine brush, wrapping around areas so the pieces are 100% covered. Best advice I could give is take your time and walk away when things don't go as expected and then revisit haha. If you like painting or appreciate fine art this is a very cool process that is like a piece of jewelry when its installed in a restoration!

Yes, this is the original Pattern for a 1934 Ford, This is a darker red color with a Burl Grain pattern.

I know where you got the plate for your woodgrain .
that CO. does not have the original pattern plate for 1934
I have sent them pictures of original pattern. They seem to like what you have better.
Ther are a few original method woodgrain people that do have the correct plate.

I understand what you're saying but it is a burl pattern all the same just blurred with ink from the factory to cover their blend lines making it look extremely cloudy. I have seen original wood graining over the years that i have been graining and my supplier on my plates has the closest match. It might not be the same exact plate they used in 1932 but show me where you can find one, because i would be interested. I cant see a photo where you sent it. Not sure what happened on my end when i tried pulling it up. Could you send it to me in an email [email protected]?

Just want to add that I have had Jonathan do numerous sets of moldings for a variety of my cars. Each and every time, the quality was second to none.
Prices have always been quite fair. Communication has been wonderful and turnaround time quite good.

You guys that know me, know what I expect... Jonathan has delivered it every time.

I will be utilizing his craftmanship once again in the near future.

Great workmanship, but I agree with whizzernick. The base color looks right on, but the ink pattern is way too busy and well defined, at least for North American-produced '34s. If you have a copy of the George DeAngelis/Ed Francis book of Ford archives photos (The Early Ford V8 As Henry Built It) please consult page 59 which has photos of both the '33 and '34 deluxe dashes. They are black and white photos as are nearly all Ford archives of the period, but the subject herein is the ink pattern, not the background color. My opinion is also based on original '34s I've owned plus NOS grained components such as glove box doors and ash tray covers.

The North American '32 wood grains are different yet again including a slightly different base color.

Johnny: You did my 34 ash tray radio face plate using my glove box door as a pattern. I am very happy. The turn around was very fast and the quality is great. The burl pattern is different than what you have shown above. Thanks for your work!

Here are some Pics I have taken of original Canadian dashes. I don't know if they are different from US dashes or not, There is probably some fading as these were taken in the 70's.

Possible '33? Early '34s used leftover '33 instrument panels, but the insert was wood grained, not chrome-plated engine turned inserts.
