Default Downdraft preference or Opinions?

Which one is easier to work with, and easy to tune on the Model A, A Stromberg 97 or a Holley 94 ? and what jets and power valves would you install?

If using only 1 carb, either one works well. In multiples Strombergs are better because of the power valve. I prefer the Stromberg because the Holley has a diaphragm accelerator pump, etc., and will dry and crack if not driven regularly. Stock jets normally are either right-on or really close.

I have a 97 on a touring engine and it is very smooth running. I like the carb.
Stock jets.

I like the Holleys but they are more difficult to set up and tune. As Jim notes the main problem is the power valve. But they are nice once tuned in.

I’ve used both with great success. The stromberg with stock jets is the place to start, as I remember the Holley is fussy on the power valve size. I’ll have to look which one we ended up with. You also need the correct style power valve, most of the ones in the kits sold now aren’t correct. It’s the holes on the side of the power valves that are the problem.
There are carb guys that specialize in strombergs.
If you run a stromberg you can also get adjustable main jets if you really want to have some fun...

I think Charlie Price is the only one who sells the adjustable jets.
