Thankfully no one was injured. While the damage won't buff out, the car certainly looks repairable. Lets hope the Toyota driver has enough insurance to make things right. Its too bad there are so many half wits behind the wheel today. Taking any historic/collectable car for a drive can be a real crap shoot!

Truely sad.. I'm almost to the point where I'm afraid to take out my coupe. People today have seemed to have lost their common sense. Speed limits mean nothing. People constantly will tailgate me. Even if I'm in a 55 mph area 50 or so. It can be a clear road to pass you, but they don't!! For whatever reason they are content to tailgate you instead of just going around you. The 1st I did to my car was to put in turn signals on my car because nobody knows what hand signals are! They all think you're waving to them! I've had a few close calls in the 6 years I've had the coupe. Such a fun little car to drive around shouldn't mean having to put up with so many idiots! Hope it all works out for theses folks!

Yup, people driving drugged/distracted are kllers ! They just don't think of what they can and will do to others and their property !
Do you know WHY they run away ? Think of that for a moment !

A bit of advice to anyone who knows that turn signals (hand and/or lights) doesn't seem to mean anything t0 this type lawless individual (in Calif). Everybody gets a driver license, no mater who/what they are. What training/insurance..ha !

Anyway, out here, the bad drivers have obviously been told one thing about lights ....use the warning/hazard lights...for all situations, i.e.- illegal parking; double parking; parking in red; parking on wrong side of street and parking in front of your driveway...and my favorite , just stop in the middle of the street while waiting for who knows what !
So, MAYBE NY folk also know this 'trick' and will cut you some slack, if you use it ? Good luck.

In Montana, a couple of years ago, a friend was injured and his wife killed when their Model T coupe was rearended by a distracted driver.

This is not good, another Family Treasure is violated by someone with no values.

There is a lesson in here though, be Careful where you park your Treasure.

My Best Wishes for the Family and Rebuild.

Also Remember the Veterans this weekend, It was Their Sacrifice the Gives Us Our Freedom.

Well, hardly a silver lining, but better situation (health/life/$ wise) than a LOT of people whom I know ended up with !

Seeing the pics of this beautiful antique destroyed made me sad, and I hope that this family can see their jewel shine again someday !

May God bless and keep safe our veterans and their families !!

I guess the real silver lining is that no one was in this A at the time it was destroyed.

I hope everyone here has uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage for this reason. Her insurance will pay the full $5k, your insurance will cover the rest.

Can you link to that story? Are you saying that California law only requires that you carry $5k in liability insurance?

Well, I just looked it up, and that is correct...

https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/de...t_facts/ffvr18

$5,000 is the minimum requirement for property damage. Seems unrealistically low.

That is nuts, and especially for California.

Yea that needs changed asap. IL min is 20K for property damage, 25K for injuries for a single person/50k for more than 1 person.

CA prolly wont change it though...

I noticed in the comments at the end of the story that several people were bashing the owner for driving an old car. I suppose that their hobby is collecting stamps or knocking a ball around a groomed lawn ( golf ). Now that sounds exciting compared to rebuilding a piece of history and enjoying it once it is done. The owner seems to be selling a 27 coupe on Craigslist to help pay for repairing the 31 coupe.
Nice to hear that it will be repaired.

Right, his insurance should pay, then go after the dimwit's insurance.

yea seems weird. can also sue the girl who hit his car as well to get payment since she didnt have enough insurance. Also in IL at least you can sue whoever the car is registered to for payment as well as its technically thier car. If neither party can pay they can sieze assets (forced to sell thier car/house/anything of value)

Insurance is a necessary evil so get absolutely as much as you can covered for.
