Default 30/31 closed cab pickup seat

Hi guys and girls, I'm in search of a seat or springs for my 30/ 31 closed cab pickup. If someone could take a few pics and a few detailed measurements it would be greatly appreciated. I'm now owning two sets that sellers knew absolutely they were for pickups. ( yes.... not even close ! ) Mike

Mike-

I know that LeBaron-Bonney has it. New USA.

This assumes your truck does not have a late '31 indented firewall (that's shown on another LB page).

Call Snyder's. They make the springs for all the Model A's, even the late '31 pickups.

If you are not short or small, I suggest the springs from Snyder for the bottom, and a piece of 2 inch foam over 3/8 inch plywood for the backrest. The pickups are cramped.

Its true. I'm 5'10" / 180 and it works for me. But if you're taller, its a problem.

Why didn't you want to buy new? You have already seen some of the risks of buying used. If you did find a used set, it's very likely the coils would at least need to be retied if not replaced. The frames will be broken, the metal will be rusty. I'm not being a pissant here, I am speaking from experience. Seat springs, especially in commercial vehicles, were used hard and usually poorly maintained. The Model A truck was not built for comfort, and it didn't improve over 87 years. Do yourself a favor and buy new. A year from now you won't miss the money and you will have had a much more enjoyable ride.

I understand the fact that you want to buy original rather than new...me too. But good used PU springs are very hard to find. I've been looking for over a year for good original used springs.

The best I found so far was a bottom cushion only. It was really nice with most of the original upholstery still on it. The price of the springs plus shipping made it more expensive than new...much more!

Before I had to sell my 30 CCPU, I was going to put in a deluxe interior with cloth side panels; headliner and Mohair bottom and back seats and a carpet floor. Just like my 30 Deluxe Coupe.

I contacted LeBaron Bonney and they said they could provide such a kit. They also provided me with a list of Certified installers that were close by to us.
