Default C4 trans adapter

Does anyone know if I can keep my Model A floorboards flat if I use a Flat O Matic trans adapter?

Hey cpa,
Maybe knowing more of what you are working with would maybe get you some feedback. For instance, an A/B engine in an A body; a V8 flathead in a Might even get you pointed to the more correct forum for better knowledge of that combination

I am building a 1930 pickup with a '50 merc V8 and would like to use a C4 trans. Kits to do so include the flat o matic and speedway. Seems like the flat o matic used a smaller housing maybe allowing me to use a flat floor which is needed in the pickup. Any help is appreciated.

Dave, Flat-o is a company that make adapters to mate a C-4 to a Flathead V-8 or Y-Block (I have one in my '55 Ranchwagon).

http://www.flat-o.com/carproducts/flatomatic.htm

The Flat-o Products and Speedway adapter will have to be large enough for the torque Converter to fit inside so I would think they would be about the same size.

You may get more info over on the HAMB.

Someone needs to make a C4 adaptor to a standard A engine, only choice is Torque-flight 904 adaptor what I plan to purchase shortly from Bert's Model A parts or the Benson (spelling?)adaptor for using the Chev T200, 300, 400, 700 and Powerglide range of transmissions.

I think a C-4 would be a excellent choice if someone needed to install an automajic trans in their A. Light weight, reliable and least amount of parasitic HP loss of most automajics, excluding the Powerglide.

I understand the late Dan Iandola made a few C4 to Mod A adaptors.

I will have to do some looking around, I have seen a Bendstern's adaptor from Mod A to Chev pattern mated up to a C4 with a race style bellhousing.

Seems like maybe something to look into.

I recently spoke to a guy that you know, not Dan I, that has been there/done that. He says that he tried to talk some into getting up the $ for tooling...no could do ! He has made 'a few' (maybe even for Dan I(?)) but will make no more.

Rick,

I do know some guys who run C4 trans on the A/B motors. Investigation time.

The story I heard was Dan I made the first ones, maybe too many adult beverages that day. Or too many stories, of who went faster and faster each time they told it.

Maybe we can get some notes on this and see what it will take.
I am looking to put something like this in the tank and possibly in the T.

You can run a v8 transadaptor with the Flat-o kit and use the flex plate
that Rotofaze makes for this swap. Getting all this this lined up for 006 TIR
can be a challenge. If the crank is not square with the rear surface of the
the block a different bunch of problems arise.

Hey John,
If I can tomo, I'll see if I can get you some details on this.
With your skills, should be cake , with info on what others have overcome.
Like old splicer says...'if not square', etc. Maybe that's where the proper tooling was needed for perfection. I'll email you if I get anything.

I think the lakes racers use some sort of home made adaptor with C4s, but they do away with the torque converter somehow and direct drive.
I love C4s too, simple, cheap to repair and work well with low HP engines (have one behind my 66 inline 6)
