Randy #1 is 6 volts, Randy #2 is 12 volts. So not really. Just start another thread. No harm, no foul.

I't doesn't matter the voltage your system is running on, 6 or 12. If you have too much voltage to the coil then you are overheating the coil and the coil is breaking down. The ignition will shut off just like you turned the ignition switch off. No other signs just shuts down instantly. You may need to place a ballast resistor in front of the coil to drop the voltage down. I'm leaning to this being the perpetrator.

Too much heat on the coil could cause coil damage eventually.

If it is a 3.0 ohm coil you don't use a ballast resistor. Your looking for a total of 3.0 ohms, 1.5 ohm coil + 1.5 ohm ballast resistor OR a 3.0 ohm coil.
