Default Engine Removal

I read the past post referencing engine removal. Know one mentioned using "Lifting Hooks" as shown in the Model T Ford Service Book. I do not have lifting hooks -but THINK lifting straps would work as well. I am sure I would have to remove the intake and exhaust manifolds not to damage them. The picture in the book sure looked simple. Any thoughts? Thanks Guys

The parts vendors sell a device that screws into the #3 spark plug hole and one can hook onto that and lift the eng/trans out. Seems to balance pretty well.

Yes that is correct. I have head off and found issue for rebuild and didn't want to re-install head. But I see my mistake - thinking I could use strap in same area as LIFT HOOKS. I think having LIFT HOOKS would be cool to add to the other things on the wall. Maybe I could find some - In meantime I will look at other ways to lift engine out. Thanks

Here's a shot of my Speedster engine with a home made lifting hook installed.
Its made from the base of an old pull apart spark plug with a suitable ring welded to it.
Cheers,
Rob

I dislike the idea of putting all that weight on one spark plug hole. I use a chain bolted to two head bolt holes. You can do it with the head removed, or leave it on and use longer bolts.
