Another 1935 pickup headlight question
I started on my headlights tonight and now I am really confused. Why are the mounts in a different spot?? What light is correct, the green or the black? This is getting frustrating.

Hi, The black one is for a pickup. The green one is for a ton and a half. Larry

I hope Old and Tired jumps in here. He knows all about these different headlights.

Re: Another 1935 pickup headlight question
I believe I made a post about just that question a few days ago on a post about the correct buckets for various year pickups. The bucket on the left I have never seen except on a 37. The 37's also came with the bucket like the one on the right. I was told that the one on the left was for a COE, but I have never seen a 37 COE and I have personally taken them off of both half-ton and 1 1/2 ton trucks...all 37's. The stand toward the rear has the net effect of moving the headlight a bit forward. In any case, the one on the left is not correct for a 35 pickup. I suspect the extra hole in the one pictured on the right is where someone put a ground wire on the back of the bucket. I believe you originally posted looking for the mounting bolt...perhaps you could remove the bolt from the bucket on the left and install it on one of the buckets you started out with.

Re: Another 1935 pickup headlight question
Thanks for the info, sadly these are the two best buckets I have, I never noticed the different mounting locations until yesterday. I am thinking of modifying the 37 bucket and move the hole to the 35 location and weld up the old holes. I know, lots of work but it is all I have. My other 35 bucket is trashed.

Re: Another 1935 pickup headlight question
Vanspeed...the buckets show up fairly regularly on the auction site. I will be setting up in Moultrie this week and will see if I can find you one. The singles are frequently far less expensive than pairs.

Re: Another 1935 pickup headlight question
So it must be that people replaced the 35's with later lights? Or is this one of those cases where ford could have put either on at the factory?

Re: Another 1935 pickup headlight question
Vanspeed...Perhaps the differences were regional. Ford made at least two different 35 pickup grilles that varied in the crank holes. I believe Lawson has pictures of both types. Ford made at least 3 different toeboards for the 38/9 pickups. In 35 they used two different doors, there were some other small differences inside the cabs that were covered up when upholstered, Ford used 34 grill ornaments on some of the early pickups before coming out with one for the 35, they used both single and dual instrument setups, and I do not think they made a 35 Deluxe pickup but I have sure seen several at shows with chrome windshield frames, a banjo, two horns, and the like.

Re: Another 1935 pickup headlight question
Quote:
1. removable garnish moldings 2. when garnish moldings were discontinued around March 35 a pull handle was stamped into the top of the door inner panel and the inner panel was held in by 5 push pins across the top. 3. 6 push pins across top of door panel 4. 7 push pins across top of door panel 5. 9 push pins across the top. 6. 1/4 inch channel welded to door to secure top of trim panel. (This did not come to pass until sometime after 36 went into production.)

Re: Another 1935 pickup headlight question
Vanspeed, Your oddball headlight bucket is a 1937 large truck head light. Here is part of a drawing identifying the light.
