Heater hose that comes off the upper rad. hose[36ford],where does it go at the heater pipes at the firewall upper pipe or lower pipe,or does it make any diff. Other hose goes into the lower rad. hose. I asked this on the other [chevybarn] no answer yet. Sorry Shelly the old barn was better for getting tech answers??? ken ct.

Re: heater hoses
My thinking on the 46 I had was to put the hot water into the pipe that was the highest, that the cooling water would sink like in a thermosyphon system ---that way it could enhance the flow ---return to the engine -
The original 36 heaters are hot air from the exhaust heat exchanger. My information may be worth nothing ---it is just my opinion and thoughts , not based on fact, I never had the instructions, nor do I have an exact description of your heater to compare it to the one I had in my car. |

Re: heater hoses
Ken, My experience from working on a variety of newer cars, generally, the source (water from usually near the t-stat or head, or in your 36 case, from the upper hose) goes to the bottom of the heater core, and the heater 'exit' (top) goes to the 'cold' part of the system (usually the pump on a newer car, or to the lower hose in your 36 case). Don't know if this is 'correct' for your 36, but this is the way the industry generally does it. Sorry I can't be more specific for your 36.
BTW, some cars/trucks have two different size hoses (3/4 & 5/8), so you can only hook them up as I described. |

Re: heater hoses
Bob + Kurt now im really confused, I guess i can try both ways and see what blows hotter air.Its not much of a problem to switch at the firewall connection.Plenty of room to work. I sincerely thank you for your replysand have a nice day. BTW both hoses are 5/8" on this one LOL. thanks again. ken ct. Need a heater as i drive in the winter too.

I have always hooked the hot water to the bottom hose. That way, you know that the water is not just falling through the heater-core. You know, that way, that there is no air in your core. It will be FILLED, at all times, with the hottest water. MIKE |

That's not really MY thinking. I read that, somewhere, a long time ago, and it made sense to me. You are welcome, MIKE |

Re: heater hoses
Hi Ken; I looked but didn't know the answer. Are you going to Bennington this weekend? Happy motoring, Craig.

Re: heater hoses
You all ways want your supply water coming into the bottom forcing any air out towards the top. With a small core the flow won't change any efficiency of the heater. Small pockets of air can totally stop the water flow.
