Jim, I'm just wondering why you swapped the location of the two gauges? I recently got a 1939 Deluxe Coupe and am still figuring out what has to be done to make it drivable.

No reason really, tried it both ways and thought it was more comfortable this way. And I agree that drivability is most important.
