Re: 34 pickup steering arm question
So a correct solution would be a home made hoop designed 90* to the drag link. Never seen it, but probably never was lookin for it.

Re: 34 pickup steering arm question
Well Geez Glenn, I feel silly now, I looked at your pics but I guess since I know what a 34 spindle looks like I did not pay enough attention. Thanks for posting again

Well, DUH ......! Me TOO, Glenn .....PERFECTLY-clear "theory-explainer" picture, except that I just completely overlooked what it was portraying....BEFORE you enlarged it for me! I guess that is one reason that I am so adamant about posting 'big' pics. But again, YOUR pic explains it perfectly. Is this FordBarn a GREAT PLACE .....or what? DD . |

Re: 34 pickup steering arm question
Looking for some assistance on the topic of steering on a 1934 pickup. Does anyone know where I can buy a replacement steering linkage and pitman arm. Both on the pickup I'm rebuilding are damaged. Obsolete parts has discontinued the '34 linkage and doesn't carry the pitman arm. I've searched 30 different early ford parts shops and can't find either of the anywhere?

Re: 34 pickup steering arm question
Try asking for a pitman arm and drag link on the wanted section of the Ford Barn. I got a really nice 33/34 pitman arm for 100.00 on there. I made my own drag link using a threaded rod and original 32/34 tie rod ends because I wanted the link to be adjustable.

Re: 34 pickup steering arm question
The hoop pitman arm is a suicide wish. Put wheels and tires on there with an engine, turn the steering wheel and watch that hoop flex up and down. I modified one for my 34 by adding a third leg from another hoop welded to the hoop and bolted to one of the bottom backing plate bolt holes.
