2012 f150 5.0 motor

just throwing this out here hoping to get an answer I have 2011 and 2012 f150's both have 5.0 motors both have a tick sounds like valves ticking more so on the right side and more so on the 2012 I have googled it and the answers are off the charts hoping I can find someone with the same problems/solution or a ford mechanic going to dealer on tues to ck the noise the mileage is 65000 0n the 11 and 35000 on the 12 serviced every 3000 miles

If you have had the spark plugs out lately, make sure they are tight.

no its not an exhaust manifold it sounds like lifters as I said internet has many views and opinions

Could be worn rocker arms or pedestals, allowing slack in the valve train. If the noise is loudest at cold start and diminishes as the engine warms up, suspect cracked or worn pistons (the aluminum pistons expand as they warm up and quiet down).

On the 2012, I think they have a 60K miles warranty so if that's the case, good to take it to the Ford shop to check. It sounds kinda like a manifold issue too, it was deceiving to the ear, sounded internal. My 2010 F150 w/4.6 had a similar noise, sure enough it was broken manifold studs on one side. I heard it was a common problem with the 4.6s, not sure about the 5.0s though.

thanks for the answers I will post fords findings although I suspect to get that's a "normal noise" although it never had it

I don't know if it's possible now, especially if these engines have direct injection, but the injector clicking used to be mistaked for lifter noise when EFI was around.

that was one of the answers on internet also bad coils although no codes come up we'll see tomorrow

follow up truck went to dealer I had a diesel behind me and I asked the service writer if he heard the noise he said that's the diesel I told him no that mine long story short it needs a motor 32000 he told me we have to order a part and its coming freight so it would be a few days I asked what it was he said a block thank heavens for extended warrantys

I'm very surprised a dealer these days is going to rebuild you're actual engine. I thought they just replaced it with one from an authorized rebuilder ? Even in the old days.

Now that I think about it, when he said they ordered a block, he must have meant a rebuilt short block.

A common problem my brother in law told me was the injector on the driver's side in the back. Carbon is also an issue there in that spot. This is on early 90s ford trucks with a 302(5.0).

The noise you hear is the valve train, resulting from low oil pressure. It would run a long time like that if necessary. There are lots of things to oil on an overhead cam system, and a convoluted passage to the end of the oil route. Thicker oil will not work, neither will additives. Welcome to the world of "improved" technology. This is not just a Ford problem, although GM covers it up better. Dodge suffers engine "problems" as well. Be thankful you got a warranty.
